growing the next generation
The Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) is a signature Johnson Controls global philanthropy program that focuses the company’s values of environmental stewardship, leadership development and diversity to develop local youth and make a positive impact on local communities where we do business.
The CLC engages students in summer employment and volunteer projects that provide hands-on conservation experience and training to build their leadership skills, develop a strong work ethic and gain a personal sense of stewardship for the environment.
The program began in 2006 with 40 student participants in Milwaukee, Wis., where Johnson Controls is headquartered. Since then, the program has grown to Baltimore, Md., and Detroit, Mich., and to global locations including China, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The program now involves more than 1,700 students each year.
Projects range from environmental education to conservation work in parks. For instance, student teams work on creating green pathways in urban parks, removing invasive species, establishing urban gardens, and making overall improvements to public green spaces. The CLC also provides an opportunity for our employees to get involved and share their leadership and environmental expertise. The program seeks to create the next generation of environmental stewards.
