Community Involvement Program volunteers “team up” to help Hospital for Sick Children

All it takes is one person to make a difference. At the Johnson Controls’ branch in Markham, Ontario, Canada, that one person is Mia Mandzy, who stepped up as captain and recruited a team of co-workers to help raise funds for the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Every year, the hospital hosts a volleyball tournament to raise funds for its foundation. This year, Mandzy, commercial product specialist, Johnson Controls Building Efficiency, and her co-workers raised more than $1,000 for the hospital by participating in the tournament.

The hospital is a long-time Johnson Controls customer. Recognized as one of the world’s foremost pediatric health-care institutions and Canada’s leading center dedicated to advancing children’s health, Mandzy knew it would not be difficult to generate enthusiasm around the branch.

“Support was overwhelming,” Mandzy said. “Johnson Controls’ Community Involvement Program has such a proud history of supporting community causes.  Employees truly embraced the opportunity to give their time, talent and resources to participate in this event.”

While the team didn’t win the tournament, they enjoyed the camaraderie of working together and they plan to volunteer again this summer.  Mandzy hopes that sharing this experience motivates others who want to get involved.

“Giving back to the community through volunteerism has so many advantages,” Mia said. “We have formed a closer bond as employees, we feel more connected to our community, and we’re looking for other ways to help. Knowing that the money we raised went to such a worthy cause motivates us to keep looking for other ways to get involved.”
