A stronger partnership

Johnson Controls opens European government relations office

Johnson Controls recently celebrated the opening of a European government relations office in Brussels at an event attended by members of the European Parliament, officials from the European Commission and member states of the European Union.

Europe has established ambitious climate and energy goals to be met by 2020, known as the “20-20-20” targets. A recently published draft of the Energy Efficiency Directive contains a number of measures aimed at moving the European Union toward its energy-saving targets.

“It is my strong belief that meeting Europe’s ambitious goals for 2020 and beyond requires a commitment to continuous innovation, investment in people and technology, and stronger partnerships between decision-makers and technology leaders like Johnson Controls,” Johnson Controls Chairman Steve Roell told attendees via video.

Reiner Spatke, Johnson Controls’ vice president, government relations in Europe, said the event helped establish key partnerships and demonstrate Johnson Controls' commitment to Europe and climate change. Over 40 percent of Johnson Controls’ 154,000 employees live and work in the European Union, where the company has more than 300 locations in 22 member states.

“The event brought us closer to our partners in European government, industry and the non-governmental organization community. The relationships developed at this event will enable us to help our customers and the European Union address its ambitious 20/20/20 climate change and its 2020 competitiveness and innovation goals."

“I cannot think of a better time to step up your [Johnson Controls’] presence and engagement with the European institutions. Your expertise and insights will be an important contribution to the European Commission,” Jean said.
