Governor's Ambassador Award
Johnson Controls was honored recently by Florida Gov. Rick Scott for its corporate citizenship and commitment to find jobs for veterans.
Scott presented the company with the Governor’s Ambassador Award, which was created by the Executive Office of the Governor and Enterprise Florida, Inc. in 2012 to recognize individuals and companies that have made significant contributions to the state of Florida’s economic development.
“Johnson Controls is recognized nationally for its corporate citizenship, including support of the arts, education, health and social services, the environment, and leadership development,” Scott said. “Johnson Controls is also a leader in getting veterans back to work. On behalf of all Floridians, I would like to celebrate your commitment to growing jobs in the Tampa area and to finding work for our skilled veterans.”
In 2011, Johnson Controls joined the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a group of leading U.S. employers that have committed to collectively hire 100,000 veterans by 2020. With more than 50,000 newly-hired veterans in the last two years, the mission is more than halfway to achieving its goal.
“At our Johnson Controls Tampa Bay battery plant, I'm proud to report that in partnership with the Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance, more than 30 percent of our new hires have been veterans,” said Tracy Breeding, plant manager for Johnson Controls Power Solutions, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. “Johnson Controls is proud to be a part of the Tampa Bay community and to participate in the economic development of Florida. And, we are proud to invest in our veterans who have given so much of themselves to serve and protect our country.”
The governor noted that Johnson Controls donated more than $13.9 million to nonprofit and community organizations in 2012 and was ranked fifth among Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s list of “100 Best Corporate Citizens.”
“Thank you Tracy and all of Johnson Controls for your hard work to promote economic growth in the Tampa area,” Scott said.
