With the re3 concept car, the future is here now
The re3 rethinks what a small car can be, responds to what consumers want and is renewable with a design based on sustainability.
The re3 is a plug-in hybrid, featuring a fuel-saving, emission-lowering lithium-ion battery with more power than nickel metal hydride batters found in most hybrids.
Unlike most hybrids, re3's battery sits beneath the center console, allowing for a low center of gravity.
The Johnson Controls global design team created a small car that doesn't feel small.
Exclusive Johnson Controls innovations, such as the EcoSpace interior, help optimize storage and integration possibilities.
Slim Line seats provide for remarkable support and comfort with ample interior space for five occupants.
Everything -- from door panels to seat covers and the foam inside the seats -- is lightweight and made from renewable natural materials that reduce the need for petroleum-based materials.
These innovations reduce the weight of seats and interior components 20 to 30 percent, thereby reducing the car's overall weight. That makes the re3 extremely fuel efficient.
Yet, the re3 doesn't scrimp on style, creature comforts, or ease of use. The interior features an enhanced human-machine interface and ergonomically optimized instrument clusters, HVAC and entertainment system controls.
Typically, concept cars are just that – concepts. They never get produced.
Happily, most innovations in the re3 are production-ready for the next generation of vehicles.
The future really is here now.
