Slim Stow Seat
Unique new design increases cargo space and offers improved seating comfort
Driven by innovative new features, Johnson Controls' new Slim Stow Seat sets new standards for second row pickup truck seating. The unique design and manufacturing process allows the Slim Stow Seat to reduce space and weight by about 33 percent, maximize seating comfort and improve driver visibility.
During a series of tests, the Slim Stow Seat was compared with rear seats of four of the most popular pickup trucks. The seat set new standards in cargo capacity, user friendliness, seating comfort, material compression and ease of assembly.
The Slim Stow Seat is able to deploy and stow using an intuitive, one-hand operation, making it easy to set the interior space from outside the vehicle. The seat stows behind the truck’s rear panel wall, maximizing cargo space while providing a clean appearance. At the same time, driver visibility and safety is improved.
The seat consists of two components. The upper part provides lateral support and contour that is usually found exclusively in front-row pickup truck seating, enabling the seat to meet all safety requirements. The lower part of the seat features a stable arm and 50 percent more foam than usual, providing superior comfort.
“Our Slim Stow Seat enables us to set new standards in foldable rear seats in pickups,” said Dr. Andreas Eppinger, Vice President Technology Management at Johnson Controls Automotive Experience. “Johnson Controls’ innovation allows us to surpass previous seating concepts in terms of comfort, cargo space and appearance”
