Who Are We? The Warren S. Johnson Society of Retirees are a volunteer social group comprised of people whose common bond is a career with Johnson Controls. All Johnson Controls retirees are welcome to join the group. In practical terms, however, we find most of the membership is drawn from Johnson Controls Building Efficiency and Corporate employees. The society is not a charity – our dues are not tax deductible. We are not an activist group – we do not campaign for any cause. We are not a union or an advocacy group – though from time to time we may convey retiree concerns to the company management. We provide three services:

Quarterly Newsletter The primary purpose of the newsletter is to provide members with a way to keep up with the activities of old friends and colleagues. In addition, the newsletter includes reports of membership meetings, some Johnson Controls news, and other useful or entertaining information. This benefit is provided to all members.

Membership Meeting From time to time, chapter membership meetings are held. The frequency of the meetings is largely based on the activity level of the various chapters. For example, the Milwaukee chapter holds quarterly luncheon meetings with a speaker or entertainment. In addition, the Denver chapter meets regularly for social purposes. Members are encouraged to form chapters and host meetings.

National Reunion In even numbered years, a national reunion open to all members is held in Milwaukee. In recent years, the reunion has been held in September. A Friday evening reception kicks off the event. Saturday activities include a program and a luncheon at the Brengel Center at Controls Group Headquarters and an evening banquet with entertainment. Sunday is left open for exploring the attractions in Milwaukee. It should be noted that Milwaukee is the center of operations for the Society for two reasons. First, Johnson Controls underwrites the printing and distribution of our newsletter. Second, since the largest concentration of members is in Milwaukee, it is easiest to draw officers and directors from that group. We are trying to explore ways to more fully involve members located outside the Milwaukee area. For example, in 2004, we elected our first director from outside the Milwaukee area. In addition, the formation of chapters in other locales would be encouraged and perhaps subsidized.
