In an effort to ensure that we develop partnerships with top-notch schools and gain access to enough graduates to help fulfill our recruiting needs, Johnson Controls continually evaluates schools for participation in CareerConnect. Schools are evaluated based on:

Achievement of programmatic accreditation through organizations like HVAC Excellence or PAHRA
Proximity to metropolitan or diverse locations
Access to technical high schools for recruitment purposes
A.A.S. Degree program(s) in HVAC/R technology, Electronic, EET, Energy Systems Management, or equivalent
Transferability of credits/Articulation agreements

Positive relationship with the United Association for Plumbers and Pipefitters of America (UA Local)
Comprehensive curriculum
Types and condition of lab equipment
Availability of funds for program upgrades
Program oriented to various technician rolls in commercial buildings.
Strong enrollment and graduation history

Additionally, Johnson Controls takes into consideration “soft factors”. We seek to understand the reputation of the HVAC/R program in the local market. One of the best indicators of reputation is if we currently hire grads from the program. Additionally, we want to make sure that program graduates enter the workforce demonstrating appropriate technical skills as well as possess effective written/verbal communication skills.
