Johnson Controls is Recognized by Toyota for its Exceptional Performance in Supplier Diversity

Leading supplier of vehicle seating, interiors and batteries is honored with automaker’s prestigious ‘Superior Award’

Jeff Smith, VP and GM of the Toyota Business Unit, receives the award

On March 13, 2012, Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America Inc. (TEMA) honored its best suppliers in North America for their 2011 achievements during its Annual Supplier Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony in Covington, Kentucky. The awards acknowledge those suppliers who have exceeded Toyota's expectations in quality performance; supplier diversity; launch performance; technology and development; and value improvement for parts and materials. Approximately 900 attendees from North American suppliers met to hear Toyota’s business objectives for its upcoming fiscal year that begins April 1, and for recognition of outstanding performance among the firm’s supply base.

At the event, Johnson Controls gained a Superior Award in the Supplier Diversity category. Superior Awards are presented by Toyota to suppliers that demonstrate exceptional performance. These awards in the area of Supplier Diversity recognized supply companies who implement supplier diversity activities and targets.

“Toyota works closely with each supplier partner in order to build our top quality vehicles,” said Robert Young, TEMA’s purchasing vice president. “This event emphasizes our suppliers’ commitment to flexibility and continuous improvement. This allows Toyota to focus on building safe and reliable products.”

Johnson Controls was one of just six suppliers to receive Superior Awards from Toyota this year, and the only supplier to receive one in the Supplier Diversity category. The company has been honored by Toyota with Superior Awards in Supplier Diversity for the past nine years.

“We are pleased to accept this significant recognition from Toyota, which is a wonderful achievement for the Johnson Controls team, as well as the teams at our valued suppliers,” said Jeff Smith, vice president and general manager, Toyota Business Unit for Johnson Controls Automotive Experience. “Our strong partnership with Toyota around the world is very important to us, and we look forward to building on our success and exceeding their expectations in 2012.”

For Toyota, Johnson Controls provides automotive seating, interior trim, electronic components and batteries for a variety of the automaker’s models manufactured in North America, Europe, South America, Japan and Southeast Asia. In addition, 2012 marks the 28th year that Johnson Controls has been doing business with Toyota.
