BODY ELECTRONICS: SPACE-SAVING INNOVATION

Ever smaller, lighter, and smarter: Body Control Modules from Johnson Controls set the benchmark.

Body Control Modules perform a wide range of tasks, including controlling the interior lighting, door locking mechanisms, or windshield wipers. Our Research & Development activities focus not only on smart new functions, but also on incorporating greater functionality into increasingly compact modules. This allows our development engineers to achieve several objectives simultaneously: cost and weight benefits, reduced complexity, and therefore greater reliability.

The best example of our innovative technology is our Body Controller with integrated Passive Access and Start System technology. It plays a vital role in optimizing a vehicle’s electronic architecture. How? By combining the Access and Start System modules with other electronic control components to create a single unit, system complexity and integration effort are reduced significantly. Now, it takes fewer interfaces to integrate the systems. Another advanced technology is the New Powered Body Controller. It enables us to incorporate two products in one: a body control unit and a junction box.

Similarly, our Key Fob combines numerous functions in a compact module. This radio-controlled locking system allows keyless locking and unlocking, activates the vehicle’s immobilizer, and also triggers other mechanisms. Leveraging bidirectional communication also permits information to be received from the vehicle, such as the fuel level, battery status, alarm information, or tire pressures.

Vehicle tire pressure information is an important driver assistance function. Our radio-controlled Tire Pressure Monitoring System displays the current tire pressure for all four tires, and provides automatic warning of any loss of pressure, meaning the driver is made aware of tire problems in a timely fashion and can react accordingly. Our immobilizer provides reassurance of a different kind by delivering active, highly effective anti-theft protection.
