Made with organic polyol
Johnson Controls uses new formulas in the production of foam that incorporates Natural Oil Polyols (NOPs), in which a proportion of the conventional petroleum-based polyol is replaced with a polyol that has organic content derived from soy, palm, canola/rape seed or castor oil. These ‘eco-friendly’ materials come from renewable sources that meet OEM specifications, with the same product performance as foam parts manufactured with traditional polyols. Johnson Controls is committed to continuing to increase the percentage of organic content in automotive seating foam. NOPs can be used in both MDI and TDI foams as well as in lower emissions foam solutions.Benefits
- Reduced use of petroleum-based polyols
- Reduced CO2 emissions in the production of polyol
- Produced using existing foaming processes and technologies
Availability
- North America: 5% soy oil based polyol has been in production on seating foam on backs and cushions since 2008
- Asia/ Pacific: Solutions using 5% Castor oil are already in production. 10% Palm Oil Polyol is validated for seat foam pads
- Europe: Technical solutions for each foam technology – MDI, TDI, PIP – have been developed to fulfill customer requirements using various NOPs and bio-feedstocks
