Introducing a better way to monitor tire pressure

Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) from Johnson Controls can save money, fuel, air quality and lives.

Low tire pressure is bad for your tires, your wallet and the environment. It can also be dangerous. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, under-inflated tires contribute to a significant number of injuries and fatalities every year.

In the EU, driving on under-inflated tires wastes an estimated 8.1 billion liters (2.14 billion gallons) of fuel a year and releases 18.4 million tons of carbon dioxide into the environment. Accordingly, the EU will make tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) mandatory for passenger cars by 2012, something the U.S. did in 2007. Read more on legislative background.

The Johnson Controls TPMS is a direct measurement system. Pressure sensors in the tires send data to a control unit which analyzes the data and sends results to a display. Unlike other direct measurement systems, the Johnson Controls TPMS requires only a single antenna integrated directly into the TPMS control unit. That eliminates additional cabling and mounting, considerably reducing system costs.

With its patented AutoTrain/AutoLearn algorithm the system automatically identifies the position of the sensors on the vehicle and trains new sensors – even if tires are changed or rotated – and tells drivers which tires are under-inflated, making it easier to remedy the situation.
