The Power of HomeLink V

The HomeLink V breakthrough is the capability to not only transmit a signal to open or close a garage door but to receive and process a signal from that device to inform the driver in the car of whether the garage door was open or closed – and when.

The earliest versions of HomeLink were capable of transmitting and receiving signals, but the only time they needed to receive a signal was when the user first trained HomeLink to transmit the proper code to operate a garage door or other device.
 
Since then, access control device manufacturers have had to make their products more secure. Instead of a fixed code preset at the factory, which someone else could steal and capture when the code was transmitted, the industry developed encrypted rolling codes. Each time the user pressed the button on the garage door opener – or HomeLink – the transmitter would send out a different code which the device could decrypt.

But consumers told us they wanted more -- namely, to be able to confirm whether and when their garage doors were open or closed, because sometimes people forget. So, we enabled HomeLink V to not only receive a signal from garage doors, but to process that signal and give the user that information.

To make HomeLink V work for the widest range of devices, we work hand in hand with the access control industry to ensure compatibility. We learn well in advance what changes the manufacturers are going to make and we produce future generations of our software accordingly. To the consumer, it’s entirely transparent. HomeLink V is just as easy to use as HomeLink I was. Just push a button.
