Sustainable eco-friendly solutions

Polyurethane foam is petroleum based. So, what is the best way to make that foam more sustainable and environmentally friendly? Replace some of the petroleum with natural, renewable, recyclable materials – such as natural fibers and polyols. That is exactly what we have done.

 

In fact, Johnson Controls pioneered the development of natural fibers more than 50 years ago and remains the industry leader today. Our eco-friendly solutions include products such as FaserTec, a Johnson Controls exclusive, that is made with coconut fibers bonded in a matrix of natural latex or chloroprene binder and non-woven materials. FaserTec is not only environmentally friendly, but also has structural properties that allow it to act as a carrier for the integration of features and is slimmer and lighter weight than conventional seats.

 

Another Johnson Controls exclusive is RenuTec, which is made with soy, castor, palm and other natural polyols. Not only does RenuTec meet our OEM customers’ performance specifications, the process we use to produce RenuTec reduces CO2 emissions. In short, our recyclable, renewable materials and our production processes help reduce emissions, enable enhanced fuel economy and support our customers and ourselves to be better environmental stewards.
