Igniting Creative Energy Challenge
Celebrating 10 years of award-winning energy savings by students!
Since 2002, students across North America in kindergarten through 12th grade have competed in the Igniting Creative Energy Challenge. Over 15,000 entries have shared innovative ways to make a difference in energy conservation and the environment.
In celebration of 10 years of energy-saving actions and ideas, past winners shared how sparks of creativity have grown into eternal flames of engagement. And how the Igniting Creative Energy Challenge has impacted their lives.
Congratulations to the first students inducted into the ICE Hall of Fame!
Rebecca Richter won in 2006 for her kid’s meal plan that included energy-efficient choices instead of toys. Today she is a singer/songwriter who uses her voice to share her vision. “Bigger Picture” encourages the responsibility we have to our world.
Stacy Wade won in 2007 when she scrapbooked how she recycled 5,000 pounds of metal. Today, she has her own recycling business and has recycled 346,000 pounds of materials. Enough metal to build 160 cars!
Suzanne Warren won in 2009 for her EcoQuest board game. Since then, she has become a LEED® Green Associate, was USGBC Colorado chapter’s student changemaker, and is an intern with Johnson Controls.
Stay tuned for an exciting new program in Fall 2012.
The Challenge, a partnership program developed by Johnson Controls and the National Energy Foundation, is a competition that encourages students to learn more about energy and the environment. It is funded through an educational grant by Johnson Controls with additional support from the National Energy Foundation.
