Creating Sustainable Communities- Leading the charge

As part of our commitment to leadership in creating sustainable communities, Johnson Controls works with like-minded organizations on a local and national basis. Because we believe in acting locally and having a positive impact on our communities, most local memberships and activities are driven by our local employees, who live and work in thousands of communities nationwide.

Associations that help lead the way 

Through our engagement with the organizations described below, Johnson Controls continues to provide thought leadership to the members and constituents.

National Association of Counties
NACo is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States providing essential services to the nation’s 3,066 counties. Their mission is to advance issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.

National League of Cities
NLC is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance and serves as a resource to and an advocate for the more than 19,000 cities, villages, and towns it represents.

ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability
ICLEI is an international association of local governments as well as national and regional local government organizations that have made a commitment to sustainable development. ICLEI works with over 1083 cities, towns, counties, and their associations worldwide to provide technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.

The United States Conference of Mayors
The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. Each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor. The primary roles of USCM is to promote the development of effective national urban/suburban policy, strengthen federal-city relationships, ensure that federal policy meets urban needs, provide mayors with leadership and management tools, and create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information.

International City/County Management Association
ICMA is the professional and educational organization for chief appointed managers, administrators, and assistants in cities, towns, counties, and regional entities throughout the world. ICMA has provides technical and management assistance, training, and information resources to its members and the local government community.

National Forum for Black Public Administrators
NFBPA is the principal and most progressive organization dedicated to the advancement of black public leadership in local and state governments. The mission of the NFBPA is to strengthen the position of Blacks within the field of public administration; to increase the number of Blacks appointed to executive positions in public service organizations; and, to groom and prepare younger, aspiring administrators for senior public management posts in the years ahead.
