Serial-to-Ethernet Converter (SECVT)

  • Enables Metasys® system implementation in remote locations over an Ethernet LAN.
  • Eliminates supervisory controllers in remote locations.
  • Increases N2 application flexibility.
  • Minimizes N2 communications wiring.
  • Lowers total installed costs.
The Serial-to-Ethernet Converter (SECVT) saves costs by reducing the number of required Network Automation Engines (NAE) and minimizing communications wiring. The convergence is accomplished by N2 tunneling over Ethernet, which enables N2 devices on a Metasys system to communicate across an Ethernet network with a supported NAE.

The SECVT converts RS-485 N2-protocol data from N2 field devices to Universal Data Protocol (UDP) packets and tunnels the data to supported NAEs over Ethernet LANs.

N2 tunneling is virtually transparent to the user. Accessing, configuring, controlling and monitoring is the same for tunneled devices and devices connected directly to the N2 trunks of the NAE.
