On April 6, 2009, Anthony E. Malkin, owner of the Empire State Building Company, announced an innovative process created by a world-class team of energy efficiency experts for analyzing and retrofitting existing office buildings. The event, held on the 86th floor of the "world's most famous office building" unveiled how the Empire State Building will be used as a replicable model for environmental sustainability in commercial office buildings. The project was developed by a world-class team of energy-efficient experts including Johnson Controls, Inc., Rocky Mountain Institute, Jones Lang LaSalle and the Clinton Climate Initiative. Among attendees at the event were President Bill Clinton, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Iain Campbell of Johnson Controls.
