Key takeaways from CoreNet Global Summits in London and Orlando
In recent weeks the corporate real estate (CRE) community has gathered on both sides of the Atlantic at CoreNet Global events in London and Orlando.
Both conferences featured a keynote addresses from highly acclaimed speaker Bill Benjamin from the Institute for Health and Human Potential on harnessing emotional intelligence to improve management performance, as well as presentations from SynapseConnecting President, Gina Schreck on how technology and social media is changing the workplace.
The events also included breakout sessions on topics such as multi-generational workplace, improving sustainability, and roadmapping the future of CRE, along with peer-to-peer networking time.
Here’s a selection of some of the top takeaways from attendees:
Darin Vest, Director Global Real Estate, Tiffany & Co: "A key takeaway for me was the importance of soft skills, based in emotional intelligence. It’s those emotional skills that really help real estate teams effectively drive and manage change across the business. It was valuable to have the importance of these skills analyzed and explained at the conference.”
Ian Dunning, Global Facilities Director - Workplace Services - Enterprise Support, Unilever: “It made me question whether we’re doing enough in the innovation space as an industry. There is innovation going on, but I’m not too sure that the industry displays that innovation very well. I think that we could bring future events to life more if we brought in more perspective from end users to create a more blended learning.”
Kira Sheppard, Global Real Estate, Motorola Solutions: “Customer Relationship Management was a recurring theme throughout the Orlando summit, from the keynote speaker to breakouts and classes. It’s a powerful concept as it applies equally to both service providers and end users. In today’s outsourcing environment, it’s critical for CRE to form closely aligned partnerships to ensure the best possible outcome and mutual success.”
Kate North, Vice President of Global Development, e-Work: “The most memorable thing for me was the two-hour workplace community workshop, in which we collectively built a workplace strategy journey map. We had more than 70 members fully engaged and, based upon the level of expertise in the room, the learnings and insights from the community were superb. It truly was a great learning event and people were very passionate. This experience highlights for me the power of a community and what can be achieved in a short time-frame when engaged, passionate people and collaborate.”
Adam Meek, CEO, Brownfield Management Associates: “The best part of the Orlando summit was the shift to a learning environment, including the use of the Learning Quarters, and getting people to engage around the exchange of information. It’s been a huge step forward for the organization and the members are benefiting. The true strength of the summit is to derive different perspectives from all industries, centered on a common interest to move things forward.”
