Johnson Controls Supports Leading Global Life Sciences Association’s Annual Meeting
The Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions (GWS) Life Sciences team recently supported the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering’s (ISPE) 2011 Annual Meeting, a key event in the global life sciences calendar. Johnson Controls GWS was a platinum sponsor and exhibitor of this year’s global meeting, which was held from 6-9 November in Dallas, Texas, and had representatives on-hand to answer any facility and technology-related questions that some of the 1,500 plus delegates had.
ISPE, which now has 22,000 members in 90 countries worldwide, continues to work to keep pharmaceutical industry professionals informed of the latest technological and regulatory trends that are occurring in the marketplace.
ISPE is an individual membership society for professionals involved in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and related products. It brings people, ideas and trends together; serving as the catalyst for solutions that influence global public health. They foster expertise and a body of knowledge that is viewed by pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals and regulators worldwide as the go-to resource for information. ISPE's core members are pharmaceutical professionals who use expert knowledge to create high-quality, cost-effective good manufacturing practice (GMP) solutions. Members include engineers, microbiologists, chemists, QA/QC, production, process development, pharmacists, regulatory and training personnel, academia, suppliers, and other professionals who contribute their expertise to the industry through their participation in ISPE activities.
This year’s annual meeting was launched by André Walker, Chair of ISPE’s International Board of Directors, who commented, “For years, the industry has been speculating about the future - when will it come? What will it bring? How will we adapt? Well, the time for speculation has passed. The future is now, and ISPE members are leading the charge. This year's theme, "Preparing Professionals and Organizations for Rapid Change", is more than a theme. In a way, it's what ISPE is all about. We've been leading global change and innovation in pharmaceutical technology and processes for more than three decades. At this year’s event, industry experts will present global GMP solutions for manufacturing, technology, regulations, facilities, and investigational products.”
Other keynote speakers at the event included Timothy C. Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Aptuit, Inc. and J. David Doleski, from the GMP Good Practice Division of the FDA’s Office of Compliance for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER).
Key areas addressed this year included:
- successful project management
- project execution in emerging markets (including China, India and Brazil)
- sustainability and “green pharma” issues (including the effective use of energy within pharmaceutical facilities)
- how global life sciences companies are changing the office and laboratory workplace to reduce real estate costs, increase productivity and innovation and adapting to the new ways of collaborative working environments.
