How would you describe your role?

What route has your career taken?
My career in the service sector started off in the security industry 15 years ago.

Jason Goddard, Regional Executive and General Manager Middle East and North Africa
After leaving college I joined Rentokil Initial as a security officer working my way rapidly through the company to Regional Manager for Thames Valley and the South Coast where I also took on the role as UK Johnson Controls Account Manager. The draw was too much and I joined Johnson Controls in 2002, as lead for the NULAP account. I have had the pleasure of leading some great teams in my time with Johnson Controls and have worked for clients such as Cisco, BP and the BBC before making the move to the Middle East.

How would your colleagues describe you at work?
Focused and driven and maybe slightly grumpy under pressure but hopefully in the main a team player who’s mostly fun to
work with.

What do you still want to achieve?
In the short to medium term, a growing business and sustainable infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa supporting both our global and regional strategies.

What do you like about working at Johnson Controls, how would you describe the culture?
I’m a firm believer that we are a market leading business that will continue to grow. For me personally, leading one of our emerging markets in a multicultural business is very exciting.

What services does your team provide?
My team, with help from the wider Global WorkPlace Solutions organization, offers the full spectrum of GWS services including real estate, project and facilities management, energy management, workplace and consulting Services, technologies and infrastructure.

Who do you provide services to?
Our current client base in the Middle East and North African countries includes some of GWS’ largest global FM accounts. We have a very exciting few months ahead of us with a number of go-lives in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman and The United Arab Emirates.

What are the key concerns of your clients?
The Middle East and North African region is very much an emerging market and with this we find there is little understanding of what facilities management actually is. It will take some time for us to communicate the value of outsourced facilities management to our potential clients, however, once they see the benefits the business will grow as it has done in other emerging markets.

How is Johnson Controls different to the competition?
Johnson Controls is one of the only companies who can provide a truly global solution in total facilities management allowing customers to concentrate on their core business. Our reputation for being a world class service provider working for Global 1000 businesses drives us to be an aspirational service provider for potential customers. Also, not many people know that Johnson Controls is a leading supplier of HVAC systems, fire safety solutions and building management systems in the Middle East, where construction has boomed in recent years. Johnson Controls understand buildings inside and out which can only benefit our clients.

What one thing could you not live without?
My laptop. I rely on this piece of technology to perform my role.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
That I’m a qualified mechanic and that I do actually have a life outside the office.

If you had to choose a completely different career – what would it be?
The one job that has always looked appealing to me is a landscaper. Sitting on a lawn mower going up and down without any stress and a real sense of satisfaction in being able to see immediately what you have just accomplished.
