Low Leakage Dampers
Outdoor air applications require low leakage rated dampers. These are typically class I or class II rated which are the best ratings. There is a new International standard of 1A which only rates leakage to 2” static pressure. The reason for low leakage dampers in these applications is to prevent hot or cold air from the outside penetrating the building when free heat or cooling is not requested. In some areas, providing low leakage dampers will prevent freezing of coils near the outside walls.Indoor air applications generally do not require as low of leakage as outside air. In these applications, Class II leakage rated dampers are used.
