We've taken water-cooled screw chiller efficiencies to a whole new level.

The new YORK YVWA water-cooled screw chiller uses a number of engineering advances to address four primary requirements of building owners and designers — efficiency, application flexibility, sustainability, and confidence.

  • Efficiency: The variable-speed drive saves energy during the 99 percent of operating hours spent at off-design conditions, when building loads and/or tower-water temperatures are lower. As a result, the YVWA delivers an Integrated Part Load Value (IPLV) as much as 30 percent better than traditional screw chillers, making it best-in-class.

  • Flexibility: Because the YVWA screw chiller is capable of handling a higher pressure lift than a centrifugal chiller, it can be used in both thermal-storage and heat-pump applications, while delivering the highest efficiencies available. This remarkable flexibility also allows the chiller to utilize a wide range of heat-rejection methods, including an open cooling tower, dry cooler, adiabatic cooler, heat recovery, or heat pump.

  • Sustainability: The YVWA chiller does not make you choose between saving money and saving the environment. The YVWA chiller reduces environmental impact in two ways:
  1. Directly, by managing refrigerant charges and the potential refrigerant leak points
  2. Indirectly, by minimizing power-plant CO2 emissions, which are responsible for 98% of the Global Warming Potential associated with chillers

  • Confidence: Gain confidence by partnering with the experts. Johnson Controls invented variable-speed-drive technology for water cooled chillers in 1979. We also introduced the industry’s first variable-speed, air-cooled, screw chiller in 2004. By 2010, our installed base exceeded 2,500,000 TR in over 100 countries. With all units combined, we have more than 20,000 years of field experience.
