FAQs
Johnson Controls is a Fortune 100 company, with leadership positions in automotive interiors, building efficiency, and power solutions. We are a leading supplier of traditional automotive batteries as well as hybrid battery systems…and also a leader in clean, closed-loop, automotive battery recycling. The company has been instrumental in making automotive batteries the most recycled consumer products in the United States.
Q – What is closed-loop recycling?
A – Johnson Controls uses a closed loop manufacturing and recycling process, which means a used battery never leaves our process from the time it is picked up to the time it is recycled and delivered back to our manufacturing facility to be used in a new battery. The post-consumer lead and polypropylene are reused for battery manufacturing. The electrolyte is transformed into a sodium sulfate salt, which is then used in textiles, glass and detergent manufacturing. And iron byproducts are used in other industrial processes.
Q – Are there any environmental risks associated with the process?
A – No. Lead-acid batteries are the most recycled consumer product in the United States. And Johnson Controls has been a leader in this field. The proposed facility will have state-of-the-art environmental controls, assuring that it conforms well within all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
