Johnson Controls owns and operates two recycling facilities in Mexico.
We acquired our first facility in 2004, as part of a broader acquisition of Grupo IMSA, the leading battery manufacturer in Mexico. Located in Cienega de Flores, Nuevo Leon, this facility has the capability of recycling 135,000 metric tons of lead and 13,000 metric tons of plastics.
The Garcia facility began production in 2011 and is in full operation today. This $150 million investment created 250 new jobs, and has the capability of recycling 135,000 metric tons, with the potential to add incremental capacity.
In Mexico, we developed the LTH™ Distributor Network, a sustainable energy distribution system that has led to nearly 100 percent of car batteries being collected and recycled in Mexico.
