RECYCLING PROCESS

Johnson Controls is the industry leader in recycling lead-acid automotive batteries. Our ongoing efforts have helped make automotive batteries the most recycled consumer product in the United States. In fact, more than 97 percent of all lead-acid automotive batteries are recycled. And automotive batteries made in North America today are made of up to 80 percent recycled materials.

"Recycling batteries keeps heavy metals out of landfills and the air. Recycling saves resources because recovered plastic and metals can be used to make new batteries."
-- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Our clean, closed-loop recycling systems minimize environmental impact and contains consumer costs.

• Safely recycled lead is reused in new batteries, electronics, computer screens, roofing materials, automotive parts and more.
• Plastic cases are recycled into pellets and then reused to manufacture new battery cases.
• Spent acid is recycled for use in textiles, glass and detergent manufacturing.

Powering the world, protecting the planet.
