Johnson Controls Power Solutions entered the Chinese market in 2005, 
when Johnson Controls acquired the Delphi global battery business. Today, we employ more than 1,300 people at our headquarters in Shanghai, manufacturing plants in Changxing and Chongqing, as well as the Shanghai Eureka Battery Technology Center and Test Facility.

 

We continue to grow in China, investing millions in state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities to provide batteries and advanced energy storage solutions across the entire technology spectrum. We are positioned in China to serve the Chinese market and bring value to our customers in China as we do for the rest of the world.

LEAD-ACID BATTERIES

Power Solutions has committed to investing more than $1 billion to expand manufacturing capacity in China to 30 million batteries over the next several years. In addition to our state-of-the-art battery plants in Changxing and Chongqing, we’re in the planning stages for another facility in Northern China and other investments to be determined. All of this production will serve the rapidly growing Chinese automotive market with high-quality batteries for new vehicles as well as aftermarket replacements.

ALL OF JOHNSON CONTROLS LEAD-ACID BATTERIES FEATURE OUR PATENTED POWERFRAME® STAMPED GRID TECHNOLOGY

  • 66% more durable and more corrosion-resistant than other grid designs.
  • Grid design provides superior starting performance with up to 70% better electrical flow than other
    grid technologies.
  • PowerFrame® manufacturing uses 20% less energy and releases 20% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than other manufacturing methods.

AGM BATTERIES

Johnson Controls Power Solutions is also bringing its Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) technology for Start-Stop vehicles to China, helping to improve fuel efficiency by 5-8 percent, as well as reduce vehicle emissions. Johnson Controls is the leading supplier of Start-Stop batteries in Europe through our VARTA® brand.

LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES

Employees at our Shanghai Eurkea Battery Technology Center and Test Facility develop and produce Li-ion battery systems and packs for several hybrid and electric vehicle applications, serving many well-known automakers.

 

Johnson Controls works continuously to better serve our Chinese automaker customers. More than 65 research and development engineers are employed at our Eureka Battery Technology Center and Test Facility in Shanghai.


The Eureka facility provides engineering, development and testing support for Micro Hybrid, hybrid and electric vehicle growth. Our state-of-the-art capabilities in battery testing and evaluation range from unique chemistries to individual cells, modules and complete systems.
