Johnson Controls is the leading independent supplier of hybrid battery systems to make vehicles more energy-efficient.

Our investment in our first U.S. lithium-ion manufacturing plant illustrates our global leadership in the developing hybrid industry. We will continue to develop worldwide relationships and a manufacturing footprint to support our global customers’ needs. We will also continue to invest in our existing operations in the U.S., Germany and China.

Our Meadowbrook facility, located in Holland, Mich., is the first in the country to produce complete Lithium-Ion battery cells and systems for hybrid and electric vehicles made by U.S. automakers. Pack assembly began in September, 2010, with cell production starting in the summer of 2011.

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, awarded Johnson Controls a $299 million dollar grant to build a domestic industry for manufacturing advanced batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. The company matched that grant for a total investment of $600 million.
