Micro Hybrid Technology
Johnson Controls, Inc., the world’s leading supplier of automotive batteries, introduces a 48 volt Micro Hybrid battery concept to help automakers meet increasing fuel economy and emissions requirements. The technology has the potential to deliver 15 to 20 percent in fuel savings over a conventional vehicle.
WHAT IS MICRO HYBRID?
Currently working with customers to identify development opportunities
Key Features
- Dual voltage battery system to support higher power loads and provide redundancy
- New 8-10 kW motor/generator to capture regeneration, support re-start and higher power loads
- New DC/DC device to bridge between higher voltage and 12V networks
Opportunities / Benefits
- Potential to radically change electrical load management due to high power regeneration
- Electrification of new loads (air conditioning, active chassis and safety, electric supercharging
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Micro Hybrid battery system involves a low voltage lead-acid battery and a 48 volt Lithium-ion battery that enable optimization of energy generation and consumption, thus saving fuel.
