Programs That Grow Your Career

Our business grows when our employees grow. We support your development at every stage of your career with experiential and formal learning programs. And we seek your feedback to learn how to make Johnson Controls a great place to work.

  • Leadership Expectations Model (LEM). This model defines the expected behavior of all Johnson Controls employees — and our key business and people processes — in support of our vision, values and goals. We use it to recruit and interview job candidates, direct employee development programs, guide supervisor skill-building programs and support behavioral assessment worldwide.
  • Business Resource Groups. These groups consist of employees with similar backgrounds, experiences or characteristics who share a common interest in professional development, improving corporate culture and achieving business results.
  • Learning and development resources. We offer an array of learning courses and programs for employees all over the world, as well as leadership development programs for potential senior-level talent across the company.

The Strength of Our Diverse Workforce
At Johnson Controls, diversity is key to doing business the right way. It’s simple, really: We provide products and services to a diverse world, so our workforce needs to reflect that diversity, with the thoughts, ideas and experiences needed to serve all markets.

We’ve already achieved measurable results. Female representation overall, and at the officer and board level, exceeds U.S. manufacturers’ benchmarks. The number of minority executives here continues to grow. And the percentage of our minority employees in the United States mirrors the general population. Our work is ongoing, and we continue to ask employees for input on diversity and inclusion progress as part of our annual global survey.

The Power of our People
The rich history and growth of Johnson Controls is made possible by our employees who come to work every day with a collective passion to make an impact. We work with each other and leverage each individual’s unique expertise to solve difficult customer challenges – as a team. Each day our employees stretch their own capabilities and focus on the right things – and the outcomes are inspirational.

In 1985 we created an annual, global Chairman’s Award program to recognize the accomplishments of our people. Individuals and teams from around the world are nominated for their outstanding achievements in alignment with our vision, mission, and values. From more than 1,000 annual nominations, a small group is chosen to receive the awards.
