The 2014 Energy Efficiency Indicator (EEI) survey of facility and energy management executives shows nearly across-the-board improvements that confirm interest and investment in energy efficiency is growing.

While many of these indicators have increased steadily over the past years, the growth from 2013 to 2014 is significant.

Here are 3 big findings:

Energy efficiency importance and investment is increasing
High performance buildings and workspaces are becoming mainstream

Two-thirds of respondents have already, or plan to certify, at least one green building, and one-third are willing to pay a premium to lease space in a green building.

Distributed energy systems investment is accelerating
Investments in distributed energy systems, including distributed generation, demand response, microgrids and energy storage, are accelerating with more than half of respondents planning to have one or more facilities able to operate without connection to the electric grid in the next ten years.
