Shedding light on a new class of lighting devices and systems Johnson Controls speaks at Department of Energy Solid-State Lighting Conference
The intersection of solid-state lighting and the Internet of Things (IoT) is resulting in a new class of lighting devices and systems. Matt Deloge, vice president Business Development and Technology, Energy Solutions/Lighting, spoke at a Department of Energy (DOE) conference in Denver, Colorado, to shed light on the developments in this industry.
Matt discussed how different modern lighting control technology is from the past. For example, today, connected lighting (i.e. lighting systems) allows remote lighting control along with the potential for interaction with HVAC, fire and security systems. Matt argued that the future of lighting is more of a revolution than an evolution.
Along with representatives from Eaton and Intel, Deloge also discussed issues like data security, the expanding lighting player ecosystem and the large opportunity that retrofit creates rather than new construction. They also discussed harnessing the power of connectivity and explaining the basics of how a customer can get started without being overwhelmed in the revolution of lighting.
