Johnson Controls helps create a green and energy efficient campus for GE
Johnson Controls is helping create a green and energy efficient campus for General Electric’s Beijing Technology Park. The innovative hollow-core design combines building aesthetics, comfort and efficiency.
Cutting-edge building technologies and solutions reduce annual operating costs by 20 percent
Spread over 75,000 square meters, the GE BTP houses multiple business units under one roof, and includes a main functional area with offices, laboratories and complementary facilities. The green features of this campus include an open office concept to encourage closer collaboration and resource-sharing, and a car-lite culture that gives parking priority to vehicle owners who actively car pools. These are just a few examples of the green initiatives that have been rolled-out as part of being a LEED certified building – not only should the building and the users work to reduce emissions, they should also live green in their daily lives.
To ensure that the campus meets stringent sustainability standards that adhere to LEED guidelines, Johnson Controls was engaged as a professional green building consultant from the early stages of the building design process. The collaborative arrangement has resulted in the adoption of an innovative hollow-core design for the square park with a glass curtain wall system and external sunshade that optimizes use of daylight in the building. The reduction of artificial lighting energy consumption has enhanced the overall comfort of indoor environment while meeting the shading needs both efficiently and aesthetically.
“We have greatly benefited from Johnson Controls’ extensive experience and professional consultancy services in the creation and efficient operation of this new comfortable and sustainable green workplace.” -- Zhang Pei, director of real estate department, GE Healthcare APAC.“We are committed to helping our customers in Asia and the rest of the world achieve their energy saving and sustainability goals,” said Shi Wen, director of sales and commercial excellence, Johnson Controls Building Technologies & Solutions China. “ We have successfully collaborated with local governments, customers and partners to build several green workplaces and business parks in Shanghai, Wuxi, Shenzhen and Guiyang. In addition, the GE BTP is equipped with indoor thermostats and YORK® variable refrigerant flow (VRF) chillers of Johnson Controls that are up to 39 percent more energy efficient compared to conventional HVAC systems. To further improve building efficiency and ensure comfort, Metasys®, the world’s leading building automation system, is installed to manage various building systems including HVAC, lighting and security systems. GE BTP also installed a heat recovery system with the recovery rate of over 70 percent, as well as a Variable Air Volume System at the recommendation of Johnson Controls, enabling a more sustainable and comfortable thermal environment.
“We have greatly benefited from Johnson Controls’ extensive experience and professional consultancy services in the creation and efficient operation of this new comfortable and sustainable green workplace. We are confident that it will help create a more efficient company culture. It also marks a good start as we embark on our goal of driving digital industrial transformation.” said Zhang Pei, director of real estate department, GE Healthcare APAC.
