J. Miguel Lopez Ascaso receives American Manufacturing Leadership Award

Recognized for outstanding performance, leadership and advancements in manufacturing

J. Miguel Lopez Ascaso, vice president, Manufacturing Excellence, Johnson Controls, received the American Manufacturing Leadership Award at the American Manufacturing Strategies (AMS) Summit in San Diego, Calif., on Oct. 30, 2017.

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated leadership in driving excellence, performance and competitiveness within American manufacturing. It celebrates a leader who has achieved remarkable advances in manufacturing while promoting leadership and teamwork within the industry.

“I’d like to congratulate Miguel for his outstanding work improving our company’s operational capabilities,” said Mike Bartschat, chief procurement officer and vice president, Johnson Controls Operating System. “The Johnson Controls Manufacturing System has delivered tremendous value to the organization, and I commend Miguel and our manufacturing organization on this achievement.”

Since 2014, Lopez Ascaso has led Manufacturing Excellence focusing on creating and deploying the Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS) in 130 plants globally. In September, 39 of these plants were certified at JCMS Level 3 which means they are operationally excellent. By implementing the principles of the JCMS, the safety, productivity and delivery improvements in the plants have resulted in greater customer satisfaction and employee engagement.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to be recognized as the recipient of this award,” said Miguel. “This award represents the commitment that Johnson Controls employees have made to achieve manufacturing excellence. It has been very gratifying to see our operations teams pulling together around this manufacturing transformation over the last few years.”

The AMS Summit showcases leaders of different organizations speaking about their successful manufacturing processes and approaches. More than 250 manufacturing leaders from across North America region attended the summit, gaining insights on operations excellence, continuous improvement and development approaches. The 2017 AMS Summit was the first to include an award for an outstanding leader within the American manufacturing field.
