Johnson Controls Receives Three Awards From Volvo Cars
Recognition for outstanding Quality and Sustainability
HANOVER, GERMANY, January 8, 2014 – The Volvo Car Corporation has honored Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company with core businesses in the automotive and building industries, with three awards for outstanding product quality and sustainable manufacturing operations.
Johnson Controls supplies the Volvo Car Corporation with Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries for versions of every one of the automaker’s models in Europe and North America. Volvo’s awards to Johnson Controls are:
- Volvo Cars Award of Excellence 2013 for outstanding achievements in environmental and social responsibility
- Volvo Cars Quality Excellence Award for Zwickau production facility
- Volvo Cars Quality Excellence Award for Hanover production facility
In selecting Johnson Controls for the environmental and social responsibility award, Volvo Cars recognized the supplier for its sustainable operational practices and for the fuel emission savings produced by AGM technology. Johnson Controls AGM batteries support Start-Stop functionality in Volvo Cars. Start-Stop vehicle engines power off when the vehicle has come to a stop, reducing fuel consumption by as much as eight percent, under certain driving conditions, according to Johnson Controls research.
In 2013, Johnson Controls invested more than 100 million euros in the expansion of its factory in Zwickau, Germany, making it the world’s largest production site for Start-Stop batteries. Since 2007, Johnson Controls has produced 20 million AGM batteries.
In addition to the environmental award, Johnson Controls received two Volvo Cars Quality Excellence Awards – one for the company’s production facility in Hanover, Germany and the other for the production facility in Zwickau, Germany.
In evaluating award recipients, Volvo Cars examined twelve elements of each plant’s operations, including logistics and technical assistance. Johnson Controls received an outstanding rating for a wide range of criteria, including on-time delivery and overall customer satisfaction. The facilities received perfect ratings in multiple categories, including trustworthiness.
Holger Jetses, General Manager Power Solutions Europe, accepted the awards at a ceremony in Gothenburg, Sweden. “For more than 20 years we have been working in close cooperation with Volvo Cars,” Jetses said. “These three awards are a great honor for us and reaffirm our commitment to high standards of quality, reliability, and performance. It also motivates us to continue our sustainability efforts – both with our products and our production sites.”
