Employee Volunteerism

Johnson Controls employees worldwide volunteer nearly 120,000 hours annually through the efforts of the Community Involvement Program (CIP).

At Johnson Controls we recognize that volunteerism has an incredible ability to strengthen not only local communities, but our employee community, as well. Service to the world at-large allows us to live our company’s values while enriching the culture within our organization’s walls. Our people are generous with their time and energy to ensure we lead the way in making our communities more comfortable, safe and sustainable.

In addition to growing strong local communities, we’re also dedicated to building strong leaders within our organization. For that reason, volunteerism is an integral part of our employee development process, as well as our internship program, as it helps to strengthen problem-solving skills and hone leadership abilities.

Volunteerism begins at the top of our organization. Our leadership team, including Chairman and CEO Steve Roell, regularly give of their time.

In addition to holding posts on local boards, they also lend a hand at community events.

Community Involvement Program (CIP)

Johnson Controls’ Community Involvement Program (CIP) is a dedicated, collaborative, and highly visible employee effort that brings together a diverse group of volunteers focused on strengthening our local communities. More than 25 years old, the program allows employees to select from numerous volunteer opportunities that fit the guidelines set forth by the Johnson Controls Foundation.

The Community Involvement Program is celebrated annually at Johnson Controls locations nationwide during a kick-off event in conjunction with National Volunteer Week each April. Throughout the year, employees are made aware of volunteer opportunities through a number of internal channels including the Johnson Controls intranet portal and an annual volunteer fair.

This year, the program has already generated more than 9,000 volunteer hours.
