  • Johnson Controls is the first business-to-business company to be honored twice as Corporation of the Year by the National Minority Supplier Development Council. The latest award was presented at NMSDC's 2008 conference. At the same conference, Reginald Layton, diversity busienss development director at Johnson Controls, received the Minority Supplier Development Leader of the Year Award. It recognized his innovative supplier development activities and leadership across industry groups and across the nation. Johnson Controls’ spend with diverse suppliers grew from $1 billion in 2006 to more than $1.5 billion in 2007. Of the 2007 total, $1.29 billion was spent with minority suppliers (Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American) certified by the NMSDC. That spend was up 46 percent from a year earlier. The award cited the company's increase in minority suppliers from 140 in 2006 to 276 in 2007. 
  • In 2008, for the seventh consecutive year, Johnson Controls exceeded $1 billion in purchases from certified diverse suppliers. The total was $1.65 billion and the company had more than 300 diverse suppliers. 
  • Recent supplier diversity recognition provided to Johnson Controls includes:
    • 2009 and 2008 Toyota Superior Award
    • 2008 Tennessee Minority Supplier Development Council, Corporation of the Year
    • Greater Milwaukee Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, 2008 Corporation of the Year
    • Greater Atlanta Economic Alliance, 2008 Corporation of the Year
  • Johnson Controls is one of just 14 companies in the Billion Dollar Roundtable, an organization comprised of U.S. corporations that annually spend more than $1 billion with certified minority- and women-owned firms.
  • Fortune magazine has ranked Johnson Controls among the most admired companies in the motor vehicle parts category over the past three years. For 2008, we ranked fourth in our category among the world's most admired companies. For 2007, when Fortune was also ranking America's most admired companies, we ranked No. 1. Companies are rated on eight key areas of leadership, including people management, social responsibility, quality of management and innovation.
  • Johnson Controls' chairman and CEO was named a recipient of a 2007 Diversity Leadership Award by Diversity Best Practices and Business Women’s Network.
  • Among the suppliers honored by Toyota North America in 2007 was Johnson Controls, winner of a Superior Award for its supplier diversity initiatives. Johnson Controls received this award in four consecutive years. The Superior Award is Toyota’s top recognition.
  • In 2007, for the sixth consecutive year, Johnson Controls exceeded $1 billion in purchases from diverse suppliers.
  • Recognition for company-wide diversity initiatives in 2007 included Corporation of the Year from both the Michigan Minority Business Development Council and the Tennessee Minority Supplier Development Council.
