Infrastructure - European Aeronautic Defence and Space group

The Brief:

  • EADS – the European Aeronautic Defence and Space group – is a global leader in aerospace, defense and related services
  • EADS Defence and Security Systems Division embarked on project to consolidate six buildings to the west of Paris into one central location
  • Johnson Controls led phased refurbishment and commissioning program

Challenges:

  • Complete refurbishment of building services and fire systems for the new HQ building, covering 85,000 square meters of office space
  • Relocate 35,000 staff over a six-month period
  • Complex timetable with different termination dates and non-negotiable rental agreements on original office locations

Solutions:

Within the overall integrated solution, Johnson Controls:
  • Replaced the heating system
  • Installed air conditioning, including eight chiller plants providing 6MW of cooling, 2,500 air terminal units and 15 air treatment central units
  • Installed Metasys® building management system with 3,000 control points

Results:

Triple bottom line benefits:
  • Financially – single location offers EADS significant efficiency savings as well as economies of scale in terms of service provision
  • Socially – the division in France has a unified identity and single workplace
  • Environmentally – through a well-designed, well-engineered building with up-to-date environmental management systems
