Social responsibility supports the triple bottom line

A truly sustainable project incorporates elements of social responsibility.

The triple bottom line model of sustainability includes a social responsibility component that can be incorporated into facility projects through the use of local small and minority businesses, workforce development, local recruiting, job creation and community volunteering, among other things.

To address this issue in urban centers, Johnson Controls has developed its MetroMarkets Strategy which uses a network of minority businesses, workforce training and recruiting efforts, and a strong community presence. To effectively compete, businesses must show a bonafide commitment in the communities they serve. That commitment includes understanding the market and demonstrating the right demographic profile within an organization or in affiliation with a local firm.

With over 500 branch offices around the globe, Johnson Controls has a “local” approach to all of its projects, large and small. Our offices are engaged in their communities. By supplementing our skills and scalability with other local employers and their employees, projects can impact a community’s economic development through job creation and increased income flow. In fact, economic multipliers depict the impact projects with Johnson Controls can have in your area both in terms of job creation and new income effects. Decision makers are looking for more than great products and services. They are looking for economic drivers.

Johnson Controls was selected as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World). One of the world’s leading corporate social responsibility indices, members must meet rigorous environmental, economic, and social criteria for corporate governance, environmental policy and management, environmental and social reporting, philanthropy and stakeholder engagement.
