Transforming Healthcare Through Technology

We're honored to begin our second year of involvement as a strategic partner in the Center for Connected Medicine (CCM). Located in Pittsburgh, PA. on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the CCM demonstrates, through a series of interactive, virtual patient stories, how the implementation and utilization of integrated technology can be used to improve patient outcomes and control health care costs.

Here are some examples of how integrated technology is transforming the health care experience:

  • When a patient walks into a room, the music and lighting can change automatically, based on his personal preference.
  • A patient's vital statistics can be monitored while he's walking around the facility, giving him more freedom.
  • When a patient presses the call button for a blanket, that request can be routed directly to an administrator - instead of nurse - allowing for a more appropriate use of resources.
  • Tracking devices can show the whereabouts of each piece of hospital equipment so that clinicians can easily locate what they need.
  • Physicians can receive and update medical records on mobile devices.

Advancements such as these are showcased at the Center for Connected Medicine where strategic partners, including Johnson Controls, have an opportunity to show how their respective solutions can help healthcare organizations improve patient care and control health care costs.

Johnson Controls Technology Contracting™ combines building and technology systems onto a converged network, delivering greater integration across systems and improved workflows between clinicians, patients and administrators. By connecting critical business, building and clinical systems, caregivers have seamless access to consolidated patient information and as a result, patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right way.

This type of holistic approach results in cost savings, too. The Technology Contracting model typically results in 8-13 percent savings on first-year construction costs.
