EcoSteps Fact Sheet

About EcoSteps
In September 2008, Power Solutions announced the launch of EcoSteps, a new lead-acid battery recycling initiative to help increase recycling rates of automotive batteries in Europe. EcoSteps is modeled after Johnson Controls’ patented closed-loop lead-acid battery recycling process used in the United States with best practices implemented in China and Mexico.

EcoSteps enables consumers to take spent car batteries to any automotive retail location or mechanic to be recycled. Additionally, EcoSteps will help make lead resources more sustainable by recycling the lead from old batteries to be reused in the production of new batteries. Based on the success of the closed-loop battery recycling process used in the United States, where lead-acid batteries are more than
98 percent recyclable, EcoSteps can have similar affects in Europe and other parts of the world, supporting the Johnson Controls vision of sustainability and preservation of natural resources.

Our Partner
The EcoSteps program in Europe is partnering with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), an international non-governmental organization for the conservation, research and restoration of the environment. Part of the proceeds from EcoSteps will fund WWF’s Global 200 project, which aims to provide environmental protection to the world’s unique eco-regions. These eco-regions include those with exceptional levels of biodiversity, including: tropical rain and dry forests; desert springs; polar seas; tundra; and mangroves.
