Johnson Controls’ technological communications advances allow people to interact efficiently with others around the worldLinked InIn an era when communication is vital, Johnson Controls is putting that reality into use through a variety of programs to boost collaboration among its personnel—no matter where in the world they happen to be.One example is Global WorkPlace Innovation, a network that develops and promotes leading-edge research in workplace, facilities management and real estate. According to Marie-Cecile Puybaraud, director of Global WorkPlace Innovation, one increasingly critical element to a positive work environment is the growing popularity of social networking. |
Puybaraud adds that social networking has taken on a variety of forms, such as e-meeting, QuickPlace and other technology, that allow people in different locations to “meet” without the time and expense of travel.
“Enterprise social networking could also be a way to efficiently manage your network, your team,” she adds. “And if you are good at it, you may ultimately cut the middle management.”
Other Technology
Another element of Johnson Controls’ research into the importance of collaboration are the Future Workshops—a thrice-yearly discussion of leading academics and corporate leaders about the possible implications of global trends on our workplaces and work styles. The discussions are summarized in Johnson Controls’ Workplace Futures Reports, addressing current and future trends and other aspects of the changing nature of worldwide collaboration.
With four generations working side by side for the first time, another key aspect of collaboration has to do with people who have yet to enter the workforce. To understand the so-called Generation Y’s preferences when it comes to the workplace, Johnson Controls recently launched its global survey OXYGENZ.
OXYGENZ offers participants a chance to interact across an array of cultures, and also share their ideas and vision as to what sort of workplace they would like to be in once they are out of school and on the job.
