Cloud-based technology is transforming the security industry
The consumerization of IT has forever changed the enterprise application landscape, with personal digital devices now dominating the enterprise information ecosystem. The shift to public cloud solutions has enabled much of this transformation. As the cloud overtakes the world of physical security solutions, it is driving vast improvements in engagement and connectivity for enterprise applications. Recently, Security Systems News hosted the Cloud+ Conference in Austin, Texas, where security professionals from around the U.S. gathered to discuss the impact the cloud, as well as building automation, is having on the security market.
Michael Mann, director of marketing & strategy for Building Wide Systems Integration, Johnson Controls, sat on a panel at the event to discuss the trends in automation and the potential for cloud security solutions to be used in the enterprise as a viable recurring revenue generator. The session looked at how cloud infrastructure, cloud-based solutions, and the need for more integration and automation are disrupting the commercial side of the business, creating opportunities for smart buildings and enabling operational efficiencies and business intelligence.

“Johnson Controls is seeing the realization of smart and IoT outcomes being delivered through a mix of on premise and cloud applications – they’re coming together through early design and collaborative planning,” said Mann. When asked what is keeping building owners from achieving more consumer benefits from the IoT, he remarked, “Barriers such as organizational culture, standards, and existing infrastructure compatibility still stand in the way of making it fast and easy.”
Technology systems and integrations must be coordinated from the beginning so that the systems are smart and sustainable to support future innovations. Through Technology Contracting, Johnson Controls integrates product, process and people to provide continuity throughout the project, delivering the desired outcomes. Johnson Controls acts as a single point of responsibility for managing planning, design, integration, installation and service. The process reduces the risk, minimizes change orders and meets our customers’ budget and deadlines, with all systems working together from the start.
