New Report Reveals Clean Energy Transition Is Now Hard-Wired Into the U.S. Economy
The Sustainable Energy in America Factbook provides valuable year-over-year data and insights on the American energy transformation.

Investment in clean energy generation and technologies shattered records in 2022, even as supply chain disruptions, an international energy crisis, and rising interest rates elevated prices for key energy commodities, according to a new industry report released March 1. Published by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and BloombergNEF, the 2023 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook provides valuable year-over-year data and insights on the American energy transformation.
A huge step forward in America’s sustainable energy journey was the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August 2022, a piece of legislation that according to the BCSE is the “most consequential law ever intended to address climate issues,” with at least $369 billion committed to supporting a transition to clean energy technologies, as the U.S. strives to slash CO2 emissions in half by 2030.
The Factbook serves as an important proof point of how far we’ve come and how much momentum we have in pursuit of net zero.
— Mark Lessans, Director of Regulatory and Environmental Affairs, Johnson Controls
The Sustainable Energy in America Factbook was commissioned by BCSE and sponsored by a number of companies, including Johnson Controls.
“This year’s Factbook demonstrates that industrial digitalization is on the rise, and as a critical enabler for decarbonization, we know the built environment is equally as ripe for digitalization. As we expand our digital solutions to provide smart, healthy, and sustainable building outcomes for our customers, the Factbook serves as an important proof point of how far we’ve come and how much momentum we have in pursuit of net zero,” said Mark Lessans, Director of Regulatory and Environmental Affairs, Johnson Controls
