Scalable multi-site energy management

Overcoming fragmented energy data across global operations

The manufacturer lacked visibility into energy usage and emissions across production lines and facilities, making ESG reporting and operational decision-making more difficult. Energy information was spread across multiple meters and systems, requiring manual calculations and creating a time-consuming reporting process. As the organization expanded internationally, it needed a scalable platform that could help standardize energy management across multiple locations. The manufacturer also wanted to understand energy and resource consumption by production line, including electricity, water and compressed air, while simplifying monthly emissions and consumption reporting.

Creating a single source of truth for energy management

The manufacturer deployed OpenBlue Net Zero to aggregate energy data from more than 30 meters into a cloud-based platform that provided a single view of energy performance. Because the platform would be used by managers as well as technical teams, usability and the ability to integrate multiple data sources were important selection criteria.

The local building management systems distributor and system integrator, Sensor, led the system architecture and installed OpenBlue Bridge, enabling seamless integration of site data in one day. Johnson Controls provided enablement, training and deployment support to help scale the solution across international locations.

Enabling data-driven sustainability reporting and energy management

The deployment gave sustainability teams real-time access to energy consumption data from 34 meters at the North Macedonia facility, providing the information needed to support reporting requirements and operational decision-making.

With energy information available through a single platform, the manufacturer established a scalable foundation for future energy optimization initiatives and expansion to additional locations. The project also helped expand digital service capabilities, creating long-term value for both the customer and its implementation partner.

Building on the initial deployment, the manufacturer is planning to connect 20 additional meters at the North Macedonia site. A second site in Asia with 80 meters is also planned, while a third location in China is under evaluation. The common platform is designed to provide a consolidated view as additional locations come online.
