Ensuring occupant safety and operational control in a high-capacity stadium

At large universities, stadium operations teams are responsible for the safety of thousands of occupants during high-attendance events. With a capacity of over 80,000 people, the university needed to mitigate risk and ensure occupant safety while maintaining seamless game day operations.

Following a major renovation, university leaders took the opportunity to implement a long-overdue upgrade to the stadium's fire and emergency communications technology.

Integrated fire detection and emergency communication systems for full stadium coverage

Johnson Controls worked with the university's fire department and local Fire Marshal to evaluate existing systems and develop a coordinated upgrade plan. The team collaborated with university stakeholders to design and implement system upgrades, holding recurring meetings to ensure alignment and progress.

To meet project timelines and deliver upgrades across the stadium, additional subcontractors were engaged to support electrical work. Through the installation of fire panels and addressable strobe technology, stadium personnel can identify incidents and deploy on-the-ground teams more effectively.

Enhanced incident visibility and faster response across the stadium

With upgraded fire and emergency communication systems in place, stadium operations and security personnel can quickly identify and respond to incidents.

Outcomes include:

  • Improved visibility into fire and emergency events throughout the stadium
  • Reduced incident response times through integrated emergency communications
  • Enabled faster deployment of on-the-ground personnel
  • Supported targeted evacuations during emergency situations
