Our Johnson Controls Foundation operates in the United States with an intensive focus on supporting those organizations with robust levels of Johnson Controls employee volunteerism. It is aligned with the company’s overall philanthropic focus of building safe, smart and sustainable communities where our employees live and work. Each year, the Johnson Controls Foundation makes grants totaling about $7 million to nearly a hundred organizations. The Foundation is a separate entity than Johnson Controls and has its own board of directors.

Might my organization be eligible for a Johnson Controls Foundation Grant?
The Foundation accepts grant requests from organizations whose mission aligns with Johnson Controls’ giving priorities. Nonprofit organizations which do not have a history of Johnson Controls support are encouraged to take a self-assessment to determine likelihood of being considered for a grant. The Johnson Controls Foundation committee relies on the nonprofit’s employee board member as part of our process of due diligence. Nonprofits without an employee on the board are seldom considered for Foundation grants.

Should my nonprofit organization apply for a grant from the Johnson Controls Foundation?

Factors that are necessary to be considered for a Johnson Controls Foundation grant:

• Nonprofit has Johnson Controls leader on their board or a deep history of partnership with Johnson Controls.
• Nonprofit’s mission is around creating a safe, smart and sustainable community and serves Milwaukee or another U.S. city with a strong Johnson Controls presence.
• Nonprofit is well-established, with a board of directors representing leaders in a variety of disciplines.
• Nonprofit has a robust level of Johnson Controls employee volunteerism.
• Nonprofit has program that directly involves the West Lawn, Thurston Woods or Havenwoods neighborhoods (preferred, but not required).
• Nonprofit is not a K-12 school, place of worship or sports organization. 

If your organization meets the basic criterion for a Johnson Controls Foundation grant, listed above, you are invited to apply for a Johnson Controls Foundation grant. Please know the grant review process is a rigorous one and response to your request will be within 90 days of your application.
