April 1st, 2016: Tyco is strengthening its industry-leading suite of notification solutions with the release of the new SIMPLEX 520 Hz low frequency sounder base with integrated speaker. This new product enhances the ability to awaken people in the event of a fire emergency and provides additional options to meet NFPA 72 low frequency notification requirements for dormitories, hotels and other facilities with sleeping areas.

Studies have shown that individuals with mild to severe hearing loss, heavy sleepers, the elderly, children, and people impaired by alcohol or medication are less likely to be awakened by high frequency sounders or horns. As a result, NFPA code now requires low frequency notification in “sleeping rooms and guest rooms.” (NFPA 72, 2010 and newer editions –

The SIMPLEX 520 Hz sounder base features a streamlined design and offers both 520 Hz and high frequency 3,000 Hz notification tones. The 520 Hz sounder base also provides customers with existing SIMPLEX systems an easy and efficient way to upgrade from standard sounder base units to a 520 Hz sounder base. The 520 Hz sounder base uses existing wiring and is compatible with a wide range of SIMPLEX sensors. This brings significant customer benefits, enabling facilities in many cases to upgrade their existing bases to the new 520 Hz sounder base without replacing wiring or devices.

“By adding the 520 Hz sounder base into our product line, SIMPLEX now offers a variety of ways to meet NFPA 72 code requirements for sleeping areas” said Peter Ryan, Senior Commercialization Manager for SIMPLEX products. “This gives both new system designers and existing system owners the flexibility to create an efficient, cost-effective solution.”

SIMPLEX 520 Hz sounder base devices are available in red or white and with an optional, integrated carbon monoxide sensor with a 10 year life span.
