Scott County School District partners with Johnson Controls to save more than $5 million in energy costs
Building energy efficiency improvements will transform school-operated facilities and enhance learning environment
“Johnson Controls ability to provide systems integration, implementation, maintenance and training, and to stay within our projected budget was key in the district’s decision to embark on this project,” said Dr. Tony McGee, District Superintendent. “This will not only be an asset to our teachers and staff but more importantly to our students.”
Scott County School District faced outdated facilities and aging equipment and technologies throughout its campuses. Johnson Controls worked closely with the district leadership to develop a turnkey energy efficiency solution that will enhance the learning environment for the more than 4,000 students in the district for years to come.
Key components of the project consist of lighting, water fixture and ceiling upgrades and improvements; boiler replacements; implementation of an energy management control system; HVAC improvements including wall-mount and rooftop unit replacements and new roofing to the Morton High School ninth-grade building.
“We are excited to work with Scott County School District to modernize the district’s facilities and enhance student learning all while saving Scott County taxpayers money," said Brad Mason, Account Executive at Johnson Controls.
The school district received a special zero percent interest loan from the federal government, administered through the Mississippi Department of Education, which it will use to pay for the contract with Johnson Controls. The funding is coming from the government’s Qualified Zone Academy Bond program.
For over 30 years Johnson Controls has successfully implemented more than 3000 ESPC projects worldwide and has helped clients save billions in utility costs. This project delivery method helps publicly funded entities make capital improvements over longer payback periods and offers many long-term benefits such as improved facility efficiency, occupant comfort, financial management and environmental protection.
