Johnson Controls joins International Society of Automation’s Global Cybersecurity Alliance as a founding member
Industry leaders across critical infrastructure and manufacturing unite to address cybersecurity threats in the Digital Age
“Digital transformation continues to accelerate across the buildings sector which heightens the urgency for cybersecurity considerations to take a leading role in planning,” said Jason Christman, vice president, chief product security officer, Global Products, Johnson Controls. “As a leader in the industrial automation controls business, Johnson Controls is already a strategic member of the ISASecure program and takes proactive actions to protect customers against cyber-threats and decrease risk. Joining the ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance is a natural extension of that commitment and supports our company’s values, customer adoption of the ISA/IEC 62443 standard and our efforts to educate global government and regulatory bodies.”
GCA’s objectives include driving development of and compliance with global standards to help address technology gaps and set best practices. Member companies will be key drivers in identifying initiatives and priorities, ensuring through the diversity of participants that the Alliance’s approach is all-encompassing. To that end, the group will focus on increasing educational opportunities, developing certification and education programs for industry professionals, in addition to determining sensible approaches with world governments and regulatory bodies. Other priorities include driving advocacy, thought leadership and knowledge sharing to shape processes and proactive approaches.
To address the evolution of cyber-threats, Johnson Controls builds resiliency and adaptability into products and solutions to help keep our customer’s data safe and secure, and to enable our solutions capacity to evolve throughout their entire lifecycle. This includes enhancing products with updated and innovative security technologies, providing a formal Product Security Incident Response (PSIR) program and issuing security advisories and patches to strengthen building systems resiliency against attack.
As a lead up to this effort, the ISA and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) developed the 62443 Series of Standards, the world’s only consensus-based cybersecurity standard for automation and control system applications. The standards define requirements and procedures for implementing electronically secure automation and industrial control systems and security practices, as well as assessing electronic security performance.
